About the Event

What is the Chi Chi Rodriguez G-Man Desert Shootout? Well, it is heavenly greens made famous by the clutch putts of many a tour player. It is Palm Desert sunshine and the hues and majesty of the Santa Rosa Mountains. It is an ever-growing band of loyal, generous sponsors. And it is the camaraderie of playing the game we love for a very good cause.

The 20^th Annual FBI Agents Association Chi Chi Rodriguez G-Man Desert Shootout Charity Golf Tournament is to be held May 12-14, 2011.

The Indian Wells Resort Hotel is once again our host hotel. The room rate is just $109.00 per night, plus tax. If the Indian Wells Resort Hotel sells out, the Embassy Suites Palm Desert is designated as our overflow hotel. There number is (760) 340-6600. Registration is Wednesday evening only. Shotgun start at 7:30 AM on Thursday morning.

Our Hospitality Room will be open Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday afternoon. On Saturday, from 3 to 5 PM, we will get together for a buffet dinner and the Awards Ceremony. (For a splendid array of local activities, entertainment and gambling, scroll down to Palm Springs’ Sights and Sounds.)

There are 220 players (two courses per day, 110 players per course)—playing the Classic Course, the Ironwood Country Club (a private and prestigious venue), and the LaQuinta Private Country Club Course that is featured on the Bob Hope PGA Tour. Slots will be available on a first-come first-serve basis. Stroke play remains in play in the contest.

The Charity

The G-Man Desert Shootout got its start as a shootout between Northern and Southern California FBI Agents and grew into a charitable tournament for the FBIAA National Trust Fund, which provides college scholarships to the children of Agents killed in the line of duty.

In addition to the usual risks of “most wanted” manhunts, criminal investigations, and bringing down drug cartels, gangs and auto boosts, organized crime, Agents are ferreting out terrorism in every nook and cranny of the world. Many are in Iraq and Afghanistan. The G-Men stationed overseas, like our soldiers, are in harm’s way daily in their efforts to protect our freedoms and preserve democracy. Most of them have children.

Sponsorship

Our tournament is sustained through the generous, ongoing support of our sponsors. We are as dependent on them, as greens are on rich, well-nourished soil. We all know what it’s like to try to get that little white ball to the hole when the ground is parched and the grass sparse and brittle.

Our dear nation is in a drought. The tournament’s coffers are lagging. We have to band together. Rather than just relying on our most faithful, generous sponsors (for whom we are immensely grateful), all of us who care about this tournament, and the kids, need to adopt and encourage an attitude of the more, the merrier. We need to reach out to our friends, foes, colleagues, relative and neighbors and encourage them to become sponsors, at whatever level they can muster. Let’s really get the word out. It’s about the kids – and their chance at a college education!

The G-Man Desert Shootout is all about playing the game we love—for the kids! But it is also about all of us and our family members and guests having a great time.
